THE Friends of Crewkerne Station (FOCS) had an outing to Templecombe to meet with the Friends of Templecombe Station.

As part of the Blackmore Vale Community Rail Partnership the Friends were able to use a travel warrant station to station, sponsored by South West Trains.

It is hoped that visits between stations will help to promote the towns and encourage more visitors.

The Friends of Crewkerne were escorted over the newly painted footbridge, around the old waiting room and signal box and given a history of the work done by the Friends of Templecombe.

Secretary of the Friends Of Crewkerne Station Gail Coleshill was very impressed by the amount of work and effort put in by the Friends Of Templecombe Station.

She said “They told us all about painting the footbridge in miserable weather in February but also about the sponsorship of Forever England which enabled them to set up some wonderful planters filled with plants at the front of the station.”

Hosting chairman Christine Hillman said: “The company shares its entrance with the station so were keen to help us improve the appearance, but they have also given us some very attractive cushions to help combat the cold metal seats in the waiting room.

“It was a pleasure to meet so many members of FOCS and show them round our station. We had a snack with them at a local hostelry afterwards and enjoyed comparing ways of raising funds and overcoming our differing challenges.”

The Blackmore Vale Community Rail partnership is working with groups like the Friends of Templecombe Station and the Friends of Crewkerne Station to help in the promotion of rail travel between the stations by local residents and to attract people to visit the tourist attractions in the towns.
